Azerbaijan is studying the Czech model of integrated public transportation.

An Azerbaijani delegation traveled to the Czech Republic from April 13–17, 2026, for a professional training program aimed at learning about smart urban mobility solutions and public transportation organization.

The delegation’s itinerary included, among other things, a visit to ROPID, which is considered one of Europe’s leading coordinators of integrated transport systems. There, the Azerbaijani delegation was introduced to a model in which the metro, trams, buses, and railways operate as a single system with coordinated schedules and a unified fare system.

Prague’s transport system is particularly interesting due to the high degree of integration among different modes of transport. This not only enhances passenger comfort but also significantly reduces the burden on urban infrastructure.

Special attention was also paid to digital solutions. The delegation held talks with Operator ICT, the company behind the Lítačka platform—one of the most comprehensive digital passenger ticketing systems in Central Europe.

During these meetings, topics such as the implementation of electronic ticketing systems and the use of big data technologies for monitoring transport flows, predicting capacity utilization, and strategic planning of urban mobility were discussed.

Next, the delegation visited the central control center of the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP), which serves as the main control center for public transport in Prague. The central control center acts as the nerve center of Prague’s public transport system, which includes control nodes for the metro, trams, and buses.

The delegation also visited Škoda Transportation’s headquarters, where the Škoda Digital division was introduced and there was a discussion about potentially integrating its solutions into Baku’s public transport management system.

The visit concluded with a “Roundtable and Networking Event” at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. During the networking session, attended by representatives of Czech companies operating in rail transport, plans were presented for the expansion and modernization of the Baku Metro, including the construction of a tram line.

The study trip was organized with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the CzechTrade agency, and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Baku.
