A significant partner of Baku Slavic University (BSU), where Czech has been taught alongside other Slavic languages for 20 years, is Charles University (UK). UK helped establish the “Center for Czech Language and Culture at BSU” and was responsible for sending lecturers. After a four-year break, Doc. PhDr. I. Bozděchová from UK visited BSU again this year. During her stay, BSU received a donation of 60 Czech language textbooks and other books. This donation was handed over in the presence of a representative of the Czech Embassy.
Czech has been taught at BSU for two decades alongside other Slavic languages. Currently, around 50 students study Czech in two fields: linguistics and translation. Recently, a new Department of West Slavic Languages was established at the university, where Czech is taught together with Polish.
One of BSU’s most important partner universities is UK, which years ago assisted in founding and equipping the “Center for Czech Language and Culture at BSU.” A key aspect of the cooperation has been the implementation of short-term Czech lectureships. This year, after a four-year pause, the sending of lecturers to BSU resumed, and at the turn of September and October, Doc. PhDr. I. Bozděchová from the Institute of Czech Language and Communication Theory at UK’s Faculty of Arts was hosted at BSU. Her visit was made possible through friendly cooperation, with travel expenses covered by the Czech side and accommodation provided by BSU.
During Doc. Bozděchová’s stay, BSU received a donation of sixty Czech language textbooks and other books, which were handed over in the presence of a representative of the Czech Embassy in Baku. These textbooks, acquired under the “Program to Support Czech Cultural Heritage Abroad,” will help to improve the quality of Czech language teaching in Azerbaijan.
