The research of Azerbaijani and Czech experts focused on history of Azerbaijani-Czech relations has brought many interesting and sometimes even surprising results. Researchers involved in the project have been conducting their research in various archives and libraries in several European countries; however the most important part of the work is naturally being done in Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic.
The meeting between the director of Archive of Political Documents of the Presidential Administration of the Azerbaijan Republic Mais Baghirov and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan Vitezslav Pivonka, held on 7th March 2017, became an important step leading to a final goal. Mr. Baghirov provided the Ambassador Mr. Pivonka with the list of documents discovered in his archive by the team led by Ms. Lala Huseynova, PhD. The list contains more than a hundred documents, which very illustratively depict the relations between the former Azerbaijan SSR and Czechoslovakia during the period from 1956 till 1986.
This interesting collection of documents is accompanied by photos discovered in the State Film and Photo Documents Archive in Baku. This collection contains photos taken during the period from 1953 to 1991.
Based on these documents, the team of researchers can create a reliable picture of mutual contacts during the post-war period up until the both countries regaining of independence at the end 80´s and the start of 90´s respectively.
