In his opening speech, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Milan Sedláček presented the priorities of the current Czech Presidency of the EU Council. Ambassador Sedláček highlighted the results of the most recent meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia at the margins of the 6 October European Political Community summit in Prague and expressed hope that the Prague talks will contribute to stabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus region. The Ambassador stressed that Czech companies are interested in opportunities offered by Azerbaijan in the field of energy, including renewables, as well as in construction, transport and smart cities development. He also announced his intention to contribute to the development of Czech language instruction in Azerbaijan.

Congratulating the Czech Republic on its National Day, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov hailed the quality of Czech-Azerbaijani bilateral relations and expressed hope that the Baku-Prague strategic partnership will positively impact the process of negotiations over a new partnership agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan. On behalf of the Azerbaijani government, Mr. Khalafov also underlined the importance of the recent Prague summit-level meeting with Armenia. 

The reception featured a presentation of the direct Baku-Prague-Baku flights by AZAL as well as a photo exhibition of Czech historical towns by the Azerbaijani photographer Aydın Sadıxov.
