On September 26, 2025, the Czech Embassy commemorated Czech Statehood Day with the participation of distinguished guests from diplomatic missions and representatives of the business community. The gala reception was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The evening began with a speech by Milan Sedláček, Czech Ambassador to Baku, followed by a speech by Samir Sharifov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. Both speakers highlighted the friendly and prosperous relations between the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan, which have been successfully developing in recent years, mainly thanks to economic cooperation.
At the beginning of his speech, Ambassador Milan Sedláček mentioned the high rating of the organization and technical support of COP 29 in Baku, which served as a platform for a number of important meetings. One of the most significant for us was undoubtedly the meeting between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic in England, followed by the visit of the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, M. Jabbarov in Prague and many other important events. This was also reflected in the growth of economic cooperation, cultural exchange, tourism, and student exchanges. In the next part of his speech, the ambassador reflected on the moral and ethical values of today's Europe and perhaps even the European Union, as well as the geopolitical blindness and short-sightedness of the current elites, and their inability to adapt their strategy to the new reality of international relations. In conclusion, the ambassador praised Azerbaijan's strong and confident leadership and its performance on the international stage, which has earned it widespread respect and recognition. The Czech Republic is a good and reliable partner to Azerbaijan and has always been so, even in difficult times.
In his speech, Samir Sharifov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, first mentioned the establishment of effective cooperation between the two countries based on mutual trust. This trust was already sealed in 2015 by a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the two states. As part of the bilateral political dialogue, the Deputy Minister also mentioned the June political consultations in Prague. Mr. Sharifov further emphasized the importance of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation and reported on mutual trade turnover, which reached a record high of USD 1.2 billion last year. In the first eight months of this year, trade turnover has already exceeded USD 700 million. Thanks to these figures, the Czech Republic is Azerbaijan's fourth largest export partner and eighth largest trading partner. In conclusion, the Deputy Minister also mentioned the humanitarian dimension of mutual cooperation, with the opening of the Azerbaijan Centre in Prague last year.
During the evening, guests had the opportunity to view the exhibition "Czech Heroines - Important Women in Czech History and the Present," where 23 panels presented an illustrated mosaic of stories about important Czech women - rulers, politicians, artists, researchers, and athletes who have left a significant mark on history and the present, not only in the Czech lands but also in an international context.
The evening was held with the support of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and esteemed partners: Azer Ish, AŽD, Budweiser Budvar, COLT CZ, CSG Group, ERA, I.B.C. PRAHA sro, SaZ, Sencor, Škoda Auto, Škoda Transportation, and Twins Travel.
