Water is a strategic commodity, especially in the age of climate change. Drinking water, irrigation systems and modernisation of wastewater treatment plants are frequently mentioned by the Iraqi Government as policy priorities.
A number of Czech companies have extensive experience in designing modern, sustainable and tailor-made solutions to meet the water management needs of diverse types of clients, ranging from households and small businesses to village and city municipalities, industrial and agricultural enterprises or national rescue and crisis-response systems.
These solutions cover the entire water cycle from drinking water treatment and water supply management to wastewater treatment and water resource protection, hydro-geology, construction and modernisation of dams and irrigation systems, including consultancy services in sustainable management of water infrastructure. The following is a concise list of areas where Czech companies have long-standing expertise in offering complex solutions that match the current and future water-management needs of the Iraqi government.
Emergency solutions:
- Preparation of drinking water using container units – mobile options for emergency situationsor stationary options for long-term treatment of a local groundwater or surface sources – rapid response, decentralized sources, minimal construction work
Recovery phase + long-term solutions:
- Filtration and purification of drinking water, water quality measurement
- Wastewater solutions – technology and process for municipal or industrial purposes – mechanical pre-cleaning and biological or chemical treatment of wastewater, prevention of contamination
- Supply of materials and devices (hydrants, pumps, automatic control valves, couplings, gate valves, double eccentric butterfly valves etc.), including turn-key container or permanent solutions, chlorine supply
- Hydro-geological and geotechnical surveys
- Design and proposals of water mains and sewerage network, water storage, digitalisation
- Construction and reconstruction of utility networks, provision of special construction and earthworks
- Municipal or industrial permeable surfaces, infiltration systems
- Water structures – watercourse modifications and revitalisation, weirs, construction of ponds, reservoirs and dams, use of water energy, prevention of water leakage
- Ecological structures – pedology, stormwater management, nature ecosystems, irrigation systems, soil conservation, cleaning of river beds
- Water desalination systems, desalination of boilers
- Management and operation of water management structures and facilities – consultancy services for catchment areas, water companies and public authorities
Our countries have an extensive and successful history of industrial cooperation, as well as a current growing dynamic of mutual trade. Czech companies are able to offer independent comprehensive solutions or work with other foreign partners. Some of them even have branches in Baghdad and Erbil. They all have solid references based on past high technical level contracts, including the construction of dams, irrigations systems or pumping stations in Baghdad, Basra, Diyala, Babel, Wasit and Sulaymaniyah provinces. They have also been involved in several UN stabilization projects in Iraq.
