
Ambassador meets President of National Investment Commission of Iraq

On July 9, 2025, Ambassador Jan Šnaidauf, accompanied by Business Counselor Roman Plevák, met with the Director of the National Investment Commission of Iraq, Haidar Mohammed Makkiyah.
At the meeting, poth parties discussed opportunities for Czech companies to participate in projects in Iraq. They also discussed next steps leading to the conclusion of a bilateral agreement on investment protection between Czechia and Iraq.
The NIC’s responsibility is to connecting investors with profitable projects that address Iraq’s most critical needs, and to ensure that the environment exists for simple entry of foreign companies into the country. NIC provides investors with logistical support, business process support and business contacts. The investment opportunities database allows users to search for opportunities by province or sector. The NIC website (investpromo.gov.iq) provides information on why Iraq is an attractive business destination, as well as background information on policies and laws, current projects and investor guides.
The Czech Embassy in Baghdad looks for new business cooperation opportunities. It can provide direct contacts of representatives of Czech companies, it can facilitate B2B communication, however it cannot enter into the direct negotiations concerning terms of contracts or price. These services are provided to Czech companies free of charge, all within the unified network of foreign representations of the Czech Republic in the world.
