
Ambassador meets director of Iraqi Railways

On July 9, 2025, Ambassador Šnaidauf, accompanied by Business Counselor Plevák, met with the Director of the state-owned company IRR (Iraqi Republic Railways Company), Mr. Mekki Jabir Nasir.
Together, they discussed developments in the field of railways and the opportunities offered here for Czech companies. During the meeting, Director received a catalogue of Association of Czech Railway Industry.
At the end of the meeting, all partners toured the historical premises of the main railway station in Baghdad.
During the long history of the IRR, Czechoslovak locomotives from ČKD were supplied to Iraq (among others). Firstly, around year 1963, twenty locomotives arrived from Czechoslovakia. Later another 36 units. And lastly - around year 1980, a whole hundred ČKD ČME3 diesel-electric locomotives were delivered to Iraq. Around 8,000 of these locomotive types were in total produced by ČKD – the most in the world.
