From the meeting with the mayor

At the meeting with the city representatives, Ambassador familiarized himself with the situation in this part of Iraq. The current challenges of the city were mentioned, especially in terms of limited capacity to provide adequate public services to all of its citizens. According to the Mayor, there are some challenges in education, health care and municipal waste management. This situation is related to a large increase of city population in the past years. Other characteristics related to the city of Fallujah include the large number of orphaned children and widows, as the city has been heavily affected in recent wars (similarly to some other parts of Iraq). The Czech side mentioned the Embassy's interest in the development of commercial cooperation between Czech and Iraqi companies. Ambassador recalled recent visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Prague in February 2025, which confirmed the mutual interest of Czechia and Iraq to further increase beneficial cooperation.

Both delegations, led by the Mayor and the Ambassador, then visited the historically important Great Mosque of Fallujah with its still functioning Islamic school Al-Safiya (founded in 1898, i.e. during the Ottoman rule - by Kazim Pasha). And together they also walked along the banks of the Euphrates River.
