On Thursday, March 20, 2025, Ambassador Jan Šnaidauf participated in the official Newroz celebration held in Akre in Kurdistan autonomous region of Iraq. The event was hosted by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Masrour Barzani and attended by a number of diplomatic missions accredited to Iraq and other Iraqi officials. There has been also an event organized at Korek Mountain Resort.
Newroz coincides with the spring equinox. It is a New Year holiday (usually on March 21; but also 19 and 20). The word Newroz is a combination of the Kurdish words naw (meaning 'new') and roz ('day'). This event is an occasion to promote unity and celebrate shared cultural heritage, and to strengthen cultural and social ties.
On Friday, March 21, a delegation of 51 Ambassadors visited the tomb of the late Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani in the Barzan region of Kurdistan. The visitors were welcomed by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and the Head of the Kurdistan Region’s Department of Foreign Relations Safeen Dizayee.
