
Ambassador discussed possible cooperation with Minister of Environment

On January 20, 2025, the Czech Ambassador was received by the Iraqi Minister of the Environment, Dr. Hallo Al-Askari. Minister presented Iraq's chalenges and priorities in the field of environment. On that occasion, Ambassador presented concrete Czech solutions and a cooperation proposal prepared for the Iraqi side by the Czech Ministry of Environment.
At the meeting, the Minister recalled government priorities in the field of the environment: clean air, water and waste management. The Iraqi side is interested in solutions for monitoring air and water quality, in solutions for municipal waste and in various solutions that minimize ecological damage during oil extraction. The ministry is interested in training for employees, in conducting media campaigns for citizens and "success stories". The minister invites Czech investors and companies to build solar power plants in Iraq. Iraqi government estimates that 12 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity will be needed by 2030.
On this occasion, the Ambassador presented a Czech offer in the field of the environment, prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, and a Czech offer in the field of water. The Minister welcomed the offer of possible cooperation with the Czech Republic and is interested in direct negotiations with the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic.
