The international military exercise Flintlock, which was also attended by the Czech Army Special Forces, ended in Ghana. Flintlock aimed to strengthen the ability of key partner countries in the region to counter violent extremist organisations, cooperate across borders and provide security for their people while respecting human rights and building trust with the civilian population. The broad participation of African and international partners demonstrated a mutual commitment to countering malicious activity and violent extremism throughout the Sahel and West Africa region. The exercise focused on regional security, but the lessons learned at Flintlock will have lasting effects beyond North and West Africa.
