Czech Republic is helping to build wells in the Ashanti Region

The Czech Republic through its Embassy in Accra helps the project "Water for Life" to build wells in the poor areas of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions. In total, three wells should be built in cooperation with local communities. On 29 August 2017, the opening ceremony of the first was held.

The contractor had to dig up to 70 meters deep well to provide steady supply of drinking water in the Nwineso village. The nearby health center had to be supplied with water barrels by then, which is unfavorable to hygienic standards.

On the festive day of opening the well, the whole community celebrated, along with a newly elected traditional leader (the "chief"), and the children could finally enjoy the water newly discovered in their neighborhood for the first time. The remaining two wells of the „Water for Life“ project are implemented by partners in the Weil and Busuama communities in the Brong-Ahafo region, approximately three hours north of Kumasi.
