On 21–22 October 2026, a technical workshop on modern methods of groundwater exploration and mapping was held in Ghana. The workshop was jointly opened by the Czech Ambassador to Ghana and Ghana’s Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim. Organised under the Czech Republic’s development cooperation with Ghana, the event highlighted the potential of modern geological methods for exploring groundwater resources.
The project is implemented by SEDA Africa Group with financial support from the Czech Development Agency (CzechAid) under the B2B Programme 2026. Its objective is to combine Czech expertise with the needs and experience of Ghanaian partners and promote the practical application of modern technologies in groundwater exploration.
The project also focused on the area around Damongo in Ghana’s Savannah Region, where specific sites suitable for groundwater exploration have been identified.
The programme included an expert lecture by Associate Professor Kamil Zágoršek of the Department of Geography at the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, presenting the project’s findings and professional approaches to groundwater exploration and assessment. Representatives of the Minerals Commission, the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) participated in the workshop and subsequent discussion. SEDA Africa Group also presented its geological platform.
On Friday, 23 October, a field excursion took place in the Akwapim/Aburi area. Geologists and technical experts from partner institutions and universities observed practical demonstrations of fracture mapping on rock outcrops, sedimentary profile analysis, field geophysical methods and water-quality measurements.
The project demonstrates how Czech development cooperation, supported by the Czech Development Agency, contributes to knowledge transfer, technological development and stronger partnerships between Czech and Ghanaian institutions. It also creates opportunities for practical cooperation in the exploration and assessment of groundwater resources in Ghana.
