From 12 to 18 April, the Delegation of the European Union organised a major cycling tour through Ghana, entitled "Riding with Team Europe", to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the EU's presence in Ghana.
The Czech Ambassador actively participated in the tour, together with the Head of the EU Delegation and colleagues from Austria, Denmark, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The Ambassador, together with his Danish colleague and the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation, completed the longest stage, from Buipe to Techiman, 160 km long. All ambassadors were accompanied by cyclists from the Ghanaian Gladiators team throughout the tour of Ghana.
The aim of the tour was to promote the presence of the European Union in Ghana, the results of cooperation over the past decades and the current work with an emphasis on sustainable development. As a symbol of this sustainability, 1,000 trees were planted throughout the tour.
The 800 km ride gradually passed through seven regions and their capitals, from Tamale in the north to Accra in the south. In each regional capital, the ambassadors met with regional ministers, representatives of local institutions and local chiefs, some of whom actively participated in the ride at the beginning of the stage.
