First Czech Meteorology Station in Ghana

On March 8, 2023, a research station was inaugurated in western Ghana´s  Bono region, run by the Global Change Research Institute of the CAS - CzechGlobe and the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani. The opening and commissioning of the station is the result of long-term cooperation of the mentioned institutions, which also includes training of staff in the form of PhD studies in the Czech Republic at CzechGlobe and Mendel University in Brno. The station's instrumentation and installation were performed by CzechGlobe, the station's own operations were handed over and it is already in the patronage of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani. The research station is equipped with cutting-edge equipment and represents a truly world-class research infrastructure unique to the African space. The data produced by the station will provide information on the actual storage capacity of the ecosystem - tropical forest, the dynamics of this storage capacity and changes in carbon storage in light of ongoing climate change.  Dignitaries of the Central and Bono regional governments, officials of  the University  and Czech Globe and representatives of the Czech Embassy in Accra  have participated the opening ceremony.
