
Visit of the Emir of Daura

As part of his journey to the northern states of Nigeria (Kano, Katsina and Kaduna) Czech Ambassador Pavel Mikeš visited on Friday, July 31 Daura emirate in Katsina State, where a traditional ruler - Emir Faruk Umar Faruk - received him.
Daura emirate belongs to the historically most important Hausa Emirates, more precisely, to one of the seven genuine Hausa emirates, so called Bakwai Hausa. Around 1,000 years ago, one of the most outstanding Hausa dynasties founded by Prince Bayajidda also came from here. Furthermore, Daura is the birthplace of the current president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari. The ruling Emir Faruk Umar Faruk (84 years) acceded to the throne in 2007.
