
The Deputy Minister of Defence signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Niger

The Deputy Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic for the management of the industrial cooperation and management section, Tomáš Kuchta and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Jaroslav Kocián visited the Republic of Niger from 23 to 25 of May, 2017. The official visit to the desert country in the Sahel area, which is a key partner in the fight against terrorism and illegal migration from the region, was the result of the effort of several years to develop defensive, military and defence-industrial cooperation with this state.
The Ambassador accredited for the Republic of Niger, Mr. Pavel Mikeš, the Deputy Director of the Sub-Saharan Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Miloslav Machálek, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, businessmen and journalists were also part of the delegation. The Czech delegation negotiated with the Minister of Defence Kalla Moutari and the Chief of Staff Gen. Seyni Garba. The highlight of the visit was the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the Defence Sector. It was a historic moment and an important event which will allow further deepening and developing relationships across a wide range of areas including the education and the defence industry.
Niger's representatives underlined the friendly attitude of the Czech Republic and stressed the partnership aspect of the whole relationship. Representatives of the Czech Republic appreciated the country's contribution to maintaining regional stability, combating against terrorism, smuggling people and drugs.
