EUNIC NIGERIA - The first workshop in the field of museology with Czech expert participation

On April 20 and 21, 2021, the first of four virtual workshops for museum stakeholders in Nigeria was held. The topic of the workshop was Museums and Education and it was attended by three experts, including one Czech expert on education in museum institutions, Mrs. Monika Mikulášková.

Mrs. Mikulášková works as a museum teacher at the Museum of the Brno Region. Thanks to her participation in the webinar, the work with the participants had a very interactive and concrete character, based on practical examples and joint solutions of case studies. The workshop was very successful from the point of view of the organizers, members of the EUNIC NIGERIA cluster, as well as from the point of view of the participants. It was full of information, but at the same time sufficiently interactive and creative. The program was divided into two days so that participants from Nigerian institutions could get into the depth of the problematic and have time for direct interviews with lecturing experts.

At a time when "Benin bronzes" from the UK and other countries are returning to Nigeria, the issue of capacity building for Nigerian museum partners is more than burning. Nigerian museums are insufficiently supported  not only financially, but also in terms of personnel. The EUNIC NIGERIA "Culture of Memory" project will continue this year with three more following workshops. A Czech expert will once again take part in the third of them, which will take place in June. Within the webinars, participants should learn how to develop inclusive participatory approaches to visitors (including virtual ones), or how to create an interactive space and an attractive environment. One of the outputs of the workshops should also be a manual and its web version
