Young Palestinian Artists Received Their Prizes from the International Children’s Exhibition Lidice and Enjoyed a Screening of Short Films by Czech Students of Animation

On 12 July 2023, the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah organized a screening of Czech short films by university graduates of animation. The screening was held at the Visual Arts Forum in Ramallah, whose students have long been participating in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. Two talented young Palestinian artists who were awarded by the jury in previous years collected their diplomas and prizes.

A young audience of roughly 20 students of the Visual Arts Forum enjoyed a selection of short movies showcasing the works of graduates from the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín which introduced them to the world of Czech animation. The Visual Arts Forum was founded in 2002 and offers a complex academic art program along with a wide range of open courses for about 120 children and adults. The institution also organizes community art projects, psychosocial support programs (art therapy and training in this field) and runs a youth empowerment program for young Palestinian artists focused on animation, creating online content, and art therapy.

Students of the Visual Arts Forum have long been participating in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice. It has been held since 1967 in honor of the memory of the children murdered by the Nazis on 10 June 10, 1942 in the Czech village of Lidice, and child victims of armed conflicts. Following a break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah presented diplomas and prizes to two young talented Palestinian artists who were awarded by the jury in previous years: Omar Amarneh for his work depicting the beauty of nature and landscape and Bisan Asad for her illustration of a dream museum.
