The Czech Republic started its presidency of the Council of the EU in Syria

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Syrian Arab Republic PhDr. Eva Filipi, started the Czech presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 11, 2022 with a ceremonial lunch for representatives of European diplomatic missions accredited to Syria and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Ambassador Filipi presented the priorities and goals of the Czech presidency and emphasized that the Czechia is assuming the presidency at a time of many political, military, humanitarian and economic challenges, which strongly affect not only the countries of the Middle East, but also Europe and the whole world.

 

In Syria and in the wider region of the Middle East, topics such as the worsening economic situation - increasing inflation, supply problems in all segments of the economy, outages in electricity and water supplies, etc., the provision of humanitarian aid to millions of people living in Syria, the return of Syrian refugees from neighboring countries and their integration into society, the security situation, increasing crime and, last but not least, the upcoming 9th round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which takes place at the end of July 2022 in Geneva.
