Successful implementation and completion of a new project to Installing and operating solar energy and fire and security alarm systems for the Orthodox monastery – Homs

In the calendar year 2023, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus successfully implemented a new project to Installing and operating solar energy and fire and security alarm systems for the Orthodox monastery – Homs as part of the "Small Scale Projects" initiative.
These projects were designed to provide support to various Syrian entities and charitable organizations. The funding for these endeavors was sourced from the Czech government's "Reconstruction Program for the Czech Republic in the Middle East region for the period 2022-2024."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is contributing to mitigate the consequences of the conflict in Syria and the overall recovery of the country in the most affected areas.

  • Project title: "Installing and operating solar energy and fire and security alarm systems for the Orthodox monastery – Homs”
  • Implementer: Antochian Orthodox Archdiocese - Homs , Syria.
  • FDC CZ contribution: CZK 469,000

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Homs encompasses 8 churches within the city and an additional 11 in the countryside. In addition to its spiritual services, the Archdiocese has been extending its services to citizens across various societal groups. With the implementation of this project, the church now facilitates the utilization of residential rooms and offices for social services throughout the day. The acquired electricity not only safeguards the property of the monastery and residential rooms but also supports the operation of community centers catering to the needs of kids and youth. Moreover, it creates employment opportunities for over 100 individuals and provides both direct and indirect support to approximately 1000 families. It is noteworthy that the fire alarm systems installed as part of this initiative are of Czech origin, contributing to enhanced safety measures within the premises.
