Czech Design 2023 –perspectives of Czech Emirati Cooperation in design and art

Under the auspices of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the United Arab Emirates with the support of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Ambassador of the Czech Republic H.E. Jiří Slavík and his spouse organised exhibition of “Czech Design 2023” on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the Czech – Emirate diplomatic relations at the Etihad Museum in Dubai on May 10, 2023. Guest of honour was H.E. Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Exhibitions reflected  important Czech companies whose products are based on original Czech design and they are special in their kinds: Amplla, SUBFOSSIL OAK, Moser, CZECH MINT – MIDDLE EAST, TALABAYA, CRYSTAL CAVIAR, LASVIT and PRECIOSA,  All those companies cosponsored an exceptional grand  event together with  Czech Airlines Smartwings and Czech producer of pianos PETROF. Very successful event was attended by more than 100 distinguished guests. The Czech Republic has opened a new chapter in the cooperation between the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates especially with the Emirate of Dubai in the field of culture, art and design.

Event started by speeches of HE Jiří Slavík, Ambassador of the Czech Republic and Dr. Saeed Mubarak Kharbash from Dubai Culture and Arts Authority,  in which there was underlined succesfully developing cooperation between the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates in many fields and huge possibilities in cooperation between Czech and Emirati artists and designers.

 Special thanks went to HE Abdullah Al Maainah, Former Ambassador of the UAE in the Czech Republic who is at the same time designer of the UAE flag. When the UAE was founded in 1971, the design by a 19 years old student Abdullah was adopted as official symbol of the UAE. Only on occassion of this Event and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Czech – Emirate diplomatic relations and underline the Czech-Emirati friendship HE Abdullah Al Maanah  came to Etihad Museum to paint again  a picture of the Emirati National flag in cooperation with Mr. Pavel Stastny , Czech Designer. The painting was later donated to the Etihad Museum in Dubai.

The evening on May 10th,  was not only a showcase of Czech Design, but also a performance by Czech String quartet Gadrew Way. The Gadrew Way String Quartet featuring four Ladies, Mrs. Gabriela Vermelho, 1st  violin, Mrs. Ludmila Budínská, 2nd violin, Mrs. Helena Vovsová, viola; Mrs. Adriana Voráčková, violoncello.

 All members of the Gadrew Way  received their musical education at prestigious Czech conservatories and academies, so during their performances of the compositions of classical and popular music as well as their own compositions,  they represented the quality of the Czech musical education. The clothes of the female musicians and subsequently of all the models at the fashion show were designed and realized by the Czech designer and owner of the company  TALABAYA Mrs. Mirka Talabašková.

Very special thanks goes the whole team of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority for excellent cooperation and the Etihad Museum for hosting the event.

The guest of honour H.E. Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, looked very carefully and with great interest at all the exhibits and was blown away by the work of the Czech masters. She greatly appreciated the fact that Czech designers have already started collaborating with their colleagues in the UAE on joint projects. Already during the tour, new ideas for very specific projects were “born”, especially with Czech Mint - Middle East, Subfossil Oak, Moser or Amplla. Special moment came when 11 years old autistic emirati pianist Ahmed Mousawi performed for invited guests  on grand piano PETROF.  HE Ambasador Jiří Slavík told, that he strongly believes that by this Event,  together with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, led by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Czech Republic has  opened a new chapter in the cooperation between the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates especially with the Emirate of Dubai in the field of culture, art and design.
